It would be totally acceptable at that level. When I had the cylinder heads off to service the machine I turned it on, and the noise of the motor and pump spinning was okay. Most of the noise is from the sucking and pulsing of the air. It seems that you can just knock up a big wooden box and line it with acoustical foam. So I do not know which one air compressor manufacturers would use A or C. I have no idea what the difference is except that the C weighting readings are about 10dB more than the A readings. I downloaded an app for my iPad that is a SPL sound pressure level meter application that has given me a figure of how load my A/C is.īy the way the iPad app has two readings called A weighting a C weighting. Of course you need a cooling fan, and a hole for the air to get sucked in by that fan and a hole to have it blow out the hot air. Looking at other piston type machines all they seen to do with them is mount all the mechanical parts in a sound insulated box.

Best way to silence my big air compressor?
